Headmasters, Great Portland Street, Review

It’s been absolutely ages since I visited a Headmasters salon, so I was excited to be invited into review a method and colour experience, especially when i was going to the Great Portland Street salon, which is one I haven’t visited before. My appointment was with Claire, who is usually based at the Raynes Park salon. Claire was fabulously helpful and efficient at interpreting what I wanted in relation to both the colour and style.

The Great Portland Street Headmasters is within a fantastically accessible location, almost opposite the rear of the BBC building. It’s surprisingly easy to park there, for some reason! The salon itself is quiet and cool, making it perfect place to retreat to on a hot day. The staff are welcoming and the the layout is easy and professional without having to be too cold.

Roots Before!

I sat down with Claire for a chat about what we wanted to do to my hair. We first focused on the colour and agreed on taking it lighter and the majority, lot cooler; I always want very ashy hair which is really hard to achieve on my hair for some reason. Claire put in my colour and then left me to relax as it took, checking in with my occasionally to ensure I was okay and see if I needed more coffee and Lotus biscuits.

Once the colour was complete I was absorbed to have my hair washed. The wash chairs are comfy so you can settle in if you need to, which I did, as my hair needed a toner to actually knock out any brassiness and keep the colour as cool as possible (I’ll be doing a post on maintaining ashy hair soon, so keep an eye out for that!) so I was there for a little while waiting for that to do it’s thing.

Before and after – I truly should’ve reapplied my make-up in the after picture…

After the color was complete, we had another chat about what sort of cut we should go for. We agreed on taking it shorter and adding a little bit of choppiness to the ends to stop it looking too flat. I must be very careful with layers as on a bob, they can look very frumpy and mumsy on me, therefore we avoided layers and instead focused the feel on the ends. I really liked the finish of the cut, although I think next time I’ll go a little shorter as this length is ideal now, but my hair grows quickly, so in a few weeks it’ll be too much time again.

I’m really pleased with both elements of my hair; I really like the cut and the light texture, and that i really love the colour which is the perfect blonde for me – it’s a little bit dirty blonde, the darker hair underneath gives it a rocky edge and a textured feel and the blonde colour itself is exactly the sort of shade I love. To have a cut and colour with Claire the cost would be lb221.50 which includes a half head of highlights, wash, cut, blow dry and tone. However, there are lots of levels of stylist available to suit your budget, and if you join the Headmasters VIP Club you get 25% services, so there are definitely bargains to be found!
