Every so often, you get a beautifully designed collection that leaves you can not decide whether to frame it, or utilize it, much like the Marimekko x Clinique collection; an edit of 30 lip products consisting of 10 redesigned takes on the cult Clinique Pop Colour + Primer Lipsticks, and 20 gorgeous shades from the new Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration, all of which have been designed by Finnish design house Marimekko, and aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?
The new Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration are probably one of my all-time favourite lip launches because they are just perfect. Think of your favourite lipgloss, that plumps, add shine and colour, whilst smoothing your lips in an unbelievably flattering finish, that also treats and hydrates your lips, then when you remove the product, you’re left with lips that feel nourished and plump instead of abused by product. That is the Clinique Pop Splash Lip Gloss + Hydration.
Of the 20 shades of the Clinique Pop Splash Lipsticks + Hydration, there’s a fairly good mixture of colours that mostly sit within nude and berry tones – they could definitely do with a few more pinks. The formula is very buildable, so you can start with a sheer wash of colour and build on that to something a little more pigmented.
I mostly favour the red-leaning berry tones such as the perfectly named Juicy Apple (13) and Pinot Pop is a surprise favourite, giving lips a hit of flattering glossy, wine-stained colour (it’s what I’m wearing above) and I also really like Air Kiss, that is a light, slightly sparkly, pink-leaning nude that adds the lightest wisp of colour that’s ideal for brightening-up a basic, everyday make-up look.
The sponge tip applicator makes application very simple as it allows you to work product in to the lip, rather than placing it on as you may a traditional gloss, which helps obtain a really clean, flattering and natural finish. This really is such an impressive formula that's perfect for the colder months when lips are crying out for a bit of hydrating help; the Clinique Pop Splash Lipsticks + Hydration proves that you can have beautiful, glossy lips without forsaking the advantages of a hydrating lip product.
